About Me

dark library shelves moody

I write suspense, quiet horror, and regional ghost stories inspired by backroads, abandoned farmhouses, and the folklore passed down at kitchen tables.

Now for the section that sounds like part bragging and part infomercial. I am an award-winning writer, TV news producer, reporter, playwright and essayist.

My work has been published by Zondervan, Baker Books, Cemetery Dance, Barnes & Noble Books, Group Publishing, Tor Books, Borderlands Press, Tales to Terrify (two audio productions), Grinning Skull Press, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Writer's Digest, just to name a few.

My supernatural suspense novel, Something Stirs was the first haunted house novel written especially for the Christian market. It was re-released in 2023 by Cemetery Dance Publications paperbook and ebook division and continues to do well. You can watch the book trailer here. (Note: This was the first book trailer of its kind, actually more of a movie trailer, and the producer, Adam Drake, is now co-producer/associate producer of The Chosen).

I was even a joke writer for the late Joan Rivers, and my comedy material has been performed on The Tonight Show.

I created a character for Jonathan Maberry's popular Joe Ledger series. I won't say which character, but after appearing in 4 novels, unless Joe starts cloning former team members (or starts attracting ghosts), I'm pretty sure that particular team member won't be coming back. Still...it was a good run while it lasted.

In an interesting twist, I am also writing regional ghost story books for the Haunted America and Spooky America series, and adapting some of them (including other writers' books at the publisher's request) as middle grade books. Like the ones I loved as a kid. And I'm having a blast!

For the more personal stuff, I'm so happily married its almost embarrassing, I can't remember a time I didn't have a guitar in my hands, and I'm a pretty decent banjo and mandolin picker. My office overlooks the ocean (so close I can bop tourists standing in the surf on the noggin with a grapefruit, though they don't like that) and I can watch launches at Cape Canaveral from my balcony.

When I'm not writing, I'm out collecting legends, interviewing folks for the next book, tracking down Donald Duck, and hiking in places best seen only in the daylight.
